Acoustic Journey Biography
A rugby playing singer, a rock guitarist and a heavy metal drummer. Not the normal combination for a country fuelled band with a love of raw sounding acoustics and bassy percussion.
The story starts back in 2009 at an open mic night at a local pub. Friends from school, Andrew Jones, a solo singer from the early days of his primary and secondary school choirs, and Ben Gurney, talented song writer and lead guitarist for rock band RichLife, were both looking to change direction and get back to the raw sound they had grown to love. Having collaborated on numerous tracks, Andrew trialling songs vocally before the transition to the rock band, they finally decided to merge their talents at a local competition "Greyhounds Got Talent" as a duo. It was a bit of a random occurrence as it was only through lack of entries to the evenings event that the two came together. Tight harmonies and a raw acoustic sound really grabbed the judges and a successful evening led to their first 2 hour gig just a few weeks later at the same pub.
A number of years playing local venues and festivals had the band searching for a fresher, harder hitting sound. Enter Andrew Sammons, heavy metal drummer for 6 Bullet Chamber, looking for a different angle to take his musical experience forward, "fancy playing the cajon for us?" was the only call he needed and Sammons brought his Lion Cajon along to the next practice.
After reworking the entire set to include a 3rd member, adding additional harmonies to some of the tracks, the band were ready to hit the circuit again. Their latest EP showcasing their new Country Rock sound.
Keep your eyes out for this kickin’ Country band who will have you tapping your feet and singing along to some old classics and original material in their own unique, upbeat style.
